Columbus man accused of repeatedly stabbing dog found on highway in Lee County

A Columbus man accused of repeatedly stabbing a dog with a pocket knife has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty in Lee County, Alabama.

The dog was found Oct. 22 in the 20000 block of U.S. 280 East, and taken to a veterinarian to be treated for “multiple stab wounds to the chest and stomach area and bruising consistent with being beaten or kicked,” according to the Lee County Sheriff.

Investigators found the dog had been microchipped for identification, and the registered owner was 32-year-old Andrew Lyndon Childs, who was arrested Monday on the felony cruelty charge and later released on $5,000 bond from the Lee County Jail, authorities said.

They said Childs admitted stabbing the dog with a pocket knife when he was questioned.

Anyone with more information on the case is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-7867.
