Threat at St. Francis-Emory Healthcare hospital causes Columbus police investigation
The Columbus Police Department is investigating a threat made Wednesday against St. Francis-Emory Healthcare, hospital spokesman Grant Farrimond confirmed to the Ledger-Enquirer.
Although the hospital has an increased security presence, Farrimond said, it is running “business as usual” and no services have been interrupted.
Farrimond declined to specify the threat. He followed up with this written statement emailed to the L-E:
“St. Francis-Emory’s top priority is the safety of our patients, employees and visitors. We take any threat to this safety very seriously. Early this morning, we responded quickly to threatening comments and followed the appropriate protocols, notifying the authorities to investigate and manage the matter.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we have implemented appropriate security precautions at our main hospital campus and increased security measures. We are currently working with the Columbus Police Department on this matter, and we want to ensure our community that patients, staff and guests are safe at St. Francis-Emory Healthcare and we will continue normal operations for the day.”
CPD’s spokesman, Sgt. Aaron Evrard, told the L-E in an email Wednesday night, “Patrol units were called to St Francis Hospital in reference to a threat made against the facility. The investigation is still in progress.”
