Authorities identify Phenix City woman, 73, killed in house fire Wednesday evening

Russell County authorities have identified the 73-year-old woman killed in a Phenix City house fire Wednesday evening.

Brenda Corbitt was pronounced dead at 8:55 p.m. at her home at 137 Alabama Highway 165, said Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr.

“We were told that she was paralyzed and used a wheelchair,” the coroner wrote in a text Thursday to the Ledger-Enquirer.

According to Phenix City police, officers and firefighters were called to the blaze at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
