An educator in the Muscogee County School District has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a student.

Kendrea Hardison surrendered to police in the presence of her lawyer Thursday, the Columbus Police Department announced Friday.

Hardison is charged with two counts of sexual assault by a person with supervisory or disciplinary authority. She was released on a $5,000 bond for each charge, according to Muscogee County Jail records. The case was bound over to Superior Court after a preliminary hearing Friday. She pleaded not guilty.

The Jordan Vocational High School page on MCSD’s website lists Hardison as a special-education teacher. The Ledger-Enquirer didn’t reach an MCSD official before publication to confirm her employment.

Saturday, MCSD communications director Kimberly Wright released the following statement:

“The Muscogee County School District received notification late yesterday afternoon regarding the recent arrest of the former Jordan High School teacher accused of alleged sexual misconduct. The allegations were presented to the District on April 12, 2022. The teacher was placed on administrative leave with no access to students and she has since been terminated and released from duty.”

Staff writer Tim Chitwood contributed to this report.
