Fired officer at Columbus detention center charged with child molestation, sodomy
A 30-year-old man who, at the time of the investigation, was employed as a captain at the Aaron Cohn Regional Youth Detention Center has been charged with sex crimes.
Tre Robinson turned himself in Tuesday at the Columbus Police Department. He had two outstanding warrants for sodomy and child molestation, CPD announced in a news release.
“The victim of this crime was not a person in custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice,” CPD clarified in a subsequent news release Wednesday.
Tyrone Oliver, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, further clarified the case when he said in a news release Wednesday that the alleged victim also wasn’t under the DJJ’s supervision.
CPD notified Oliver’s office July 1 that felony arrest warrants had been issued against Robinson, and he immediately was fired from his position, Oliver said.
“The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice has zero tolerance for the allegations levied against Mr. Robinson,” Oliver said.
None of the alleged crimes happened on DJJ property, DJJ communications director Glenn Allen told the Ledger-Enquirer.
Robinson had a preliminary hearing Wednesday in the Muscogee County Recorder’s Court. The charges were bound over to Superior Court. He is listed as an inmate in the Muscogee County Jail without bond.
