One man shot dead in Russell County, woman arrested and charged with murder

One man is dead after a late night shooting Tuesday in Hurtsboro, according to Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor.

Deputies conducting area checks found the victim, 36-year-old Sammie Lee Pritchett Jr., in the parking lot of Candlewood Apartments, 501 Lloyd St., according to officials.

Hurtsboro, Alabama, is about 30 miles southwest of Columbus.

Pritchett was found with multiple gunshot wounds, Taylor said. Pritchett had previously been in an altercation with Deshondra Shawnese Green, age 26, in the parking lot of Candlewood Apartments, according to Taylor’s statement.

Green was arrested Wednesday by RCSO investigators and charged with murder, according to the release.
