A woman critically wounded in a Feb. 18 shooting that killed two men at a Columbus Motel 6 has died in the hospital.

Coroner Buddy Bryan identified her as Tonya Carter, 50, pronounced dead at 11:54 a.m. Saturday in the intensive care unit at Piedmont Columbus Regional.

The two men killed in the barrage of gunfire that Saturday night at the 3050 Victory Drive motel were her husband, Michael Carter Sr., 54, and son Michael Carter Jr., 19, Bryan said.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, at 9:48 p.m., Bryan said. He said Tonya Carter was hit in the neck during the shooting.

A child also was wounded and sent to Egleston Hospital in Atlanta.

In a news release Feb. 19, Columbus police said officers were called to the motel at 9:09 p.m. They have not said whether the child is related to the three adults, and they have not cited a motive for the shooting.

They asked anyone with information on the shooting to contact Sgt. Donna Baker at 706-225-4296 or dbaker@columbusga.org.

Tonya Carter’s death brings Columbus’ homicide total so far this year to 12.
