Eight shootings and 10 people injured in Columbus over past few days

Police say there were a total of eight shootings that caused injuries to ten people from May 6 through May 8 in Columbus, an updated account of a recent spate of violence in the city.

The shootings stretched around the city including the following locations, according to the Columbus Police Department from May 6 through May 8. Police updated and provided more detail about each of the shootings on Tuesday.

  • May 6: A shooting in the 60 block of Pelham Drive where a 16-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He was transported by EMS to Piedmont Columbus Regional for treatment. No arrests have been made.
  • May 6: A shooting in the area of Fourth Ave and 29th Street. A 25-year-old female received a gunshot wound to the face and was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.
  • May 7: A shooting on Bay Avenue near Banks Food Hall where two females were shot. They were taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional by EMS after getting in an accident as the driver tried to take them to the hospital. One victim was shot in the side and has since been treated and released. The other victim had multiple gunshot wounds and remains in stable condition. No arrests have been made.
  • May 7: A shooting in the 2800 block of 10th Street where two males were injured. One male was shot in the pelvic area and the other was shot in the foot. No arrests have been made.
  • A shooting on I-185 South just past the exit ramp to Manchester Expressway. Aledaine Garcia was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Affray. Markale Mickles was shot in the thigh. Mickles was issued a summons for Affray, Simple Assault, and Discharging a Firearm within city limits.
  • A shooting in the 1500 block of Bowman Street where a male victim was found in a driveway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his leg and hip. No arrests have been made.
  • A shooting in the 1600 block of Edgechester Drive around 5:40 a.m. where a male victim was found with a gunshot wound to the thigh. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. No arrests have been made.
  • A shooting that injured one male in the 1400 block of Warm Springs Road. He left a residence in the 1500 block of 27th Street after shots were fired at the residence. He remains in stable condition. No arrests have been made.

Police say that there was also a stabbing in addition to the shootings.

No deaths were reported from the barrage of shootings, police said.

The outbreak of shootings comes during a time of concern regarding gun violence in the city with over 20 homicides in the area since the beginning of the year, according to reporting by the Ledger-Enquirer.
