Remains of missing Columbus woman found in wooded area in Alabama

The remains of a missing Columbus woman have been found in Lee County in Alabama, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s office.

The office says on August 13 they responded to reports of a body being found in a wooded area just off Lee Road 170.

The remains were later identified as 28-year-old Myshonique Maddox, according to a release.

Maddox was last seen in Columbus on July 22, 2023, in the 1100 block of 22nd Street, according to Ledger-Enquirer reporting.

Lee County Sheriff’s Investigators, Columbus Police Department detectives, and Russell County Sheriff’s investigators are investigating the case, according to the release.
