Columbus police say a 14-year-old has been charged in the Wednesday shooting death of another boy who was 16.

Investigators were called at 6:14 p.m. to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where the victim arrived wounded.

Doctors were unable to revive the teen police identified as Timothy Holloway, Jr., and an emergency room doctor pronounced him dead at 6:48 p.m., authorities said.

They said a 14-year-old, whose name has been withheld because of his juvenile status, under the law, has been charged with these counts:

  • Misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter
  • Reckless conduct
  • Possessing a handgun while under the age of 18

The suspect had a juvenile court hearing Thursday morning. The Ledger-Enquirer petitioned the court to attend the hearing, but was denied.

A police report did not give details of the shooting, saying only that “subject was in possession of a firearm and struck the victim in the abdomen causing him to succumb to his injuries.”

However, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said he was told by police the shooting occurred inside a car that was carrying three males and two females.

It said the suspect lives in Phenix City, Alabama, and that three people witnessed the shooting.

Police asked anyone with information on the shooting to contact Cpl. Charles Alexander at 706-225-4263 or calexander@columbusga.org.
