Shooting at Phenix City bar leaves one man dead. A suspect was arrested, police say

A shooting Saturday in Phenix City has left one man dead and another behind bars, according to Phenix City police.

Police said they responded at 1:30 a.m., Saturday, to Aces Bar & Grill on U.S. Highway 80 west in reference to a shooting.

Police said arriving officers found Jacob Sanes, 34, from Smith Station, dead from a gunshot wound.

A suspect was quickly identified and the suspect’s vehicle was located traveling on U.S. Highway 80 while investigators were still on the scene, according to police.

Police said a felony traffic stop was initiated and the suspect was taken into custody.

Police identified the suspect as Jeffery Aaron Spurlock a.k.a. “Fruit Loop.”

Spurlock is charged with capital murder, according to a news release.
