Teen shoots 10-year-old sibling, then himself in Troup County, sheriff’s office says

A 15-year-old teenager is listed in critical condition and a 10-year-old was injured in a shooting late Tuesday night involving two young siblings in Troup County, according to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded at 10:41 p.m. Tuesday to a home in the 1600 block of Bartley Road in LaGrange to a report of a male and female being shot.

Emergency responders found a male, 15, and a female, 10, each suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a news release.

The sheriff’s office said life-saving measures were started on both individuals and they were taken to Wellstar West Georgia Emergency Department.

The investigation revealed that the male shot the female with a handgun, according to the release. The sheriff’s office said the reason for the shooting is unknown.

The male then shot himself, according to the release.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that the two individuals were siblings.

The male is currently listed in critical condition and the female victim has been transported to an Atlanta-area hospital for treatment, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing.
