A second person has been arrested and charged with murder over a shooting that killed one person and injured others on Broadway in Columbus earlier this month, according to the Columbus Police Department.

Columbus police said Markale Mickles, 19, was apprehended and charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and two counts of aggravated assault. This arrest stems from the July 7 shooting death of 21-year-old Quentin Scott Jr., according to police.

Police were dispatched shortly after midnight on July 7 to a parking garage in the 1000 block of Broadway, where they found Scott lying in the garage with gunshot wounds. Two others were shot during the incident, police said at the time.

Mickles was expected to appear in Recorder’s Court at 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the police department.

First arrest in Columbus murder case

Brandon Day, 21, was the first person arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting, police said.

Cpl. Bobby Jackson, from Columbus police, testified in court that Day didn’t fire the shots that left Scott dead despite one of the victims of the shooting identifying Day as the shooter.

Evidence showed Day started the argument and pulled out a weapon, but didn’t aim or fire the weapon after the verbal altercation, Jackson testified.

Jackson said Day and one of the victims were arguing, and the victim was out of jail on bond after allegedly shooting Day’s sister.

Day was disarmed by someone who was there with Scott, and a video of the incident showed the gun fell to the ground, according to Jackson.

Jackson said at that point, someone else pulled a weapon and shot at Scott’s group.
