Columbus crime: Megail Thirkield arrested for armed robbery and assault; police still looking for second suspect

Columbus police have arrested one suspect in a shooting and armed robbery that occurred last week and are still looking for another.

Lt. Lynn Joiner said Megail Thirkield was arrested on Monday, Feb. 22 at an apartment complex on Cusseta Road, after officers received a phone tips on his whereabouts. He was arrested on outstanding warrants for armed robbery and aggravated assault in connection with a shooting and armed robbery that occurred on Sheridan Avenue on Feb. 11.

He is scheduled to appear in Muscogee County Recorder's Court on February 24 at 2 p.m.

Police are still looking for a second suspect, Daniel Lee Pitts. Pitts, 22, is wanted for three counts of aggravated assault, one count of armed robbery and one count of hijacking a motor vehicle.

He is described as standing about 5-feet-7-inches tall, weighing between 120 to 135 pounds and his hair possibly has twists. He is known to be armed with a handgun.

He is known to frequent the south end of town in the Benning Road, Wade Street area.
