A Columbus man accused of pimping a 15-year-old girl out of a Victory Drive hotel faces two misdemeanor charges, police said.
Officers arrested Joshua S. Valdez, 23, around 8:50 p.m. Tuesday at the Days Inn, 3170 Victory Drive. According to reports, officers learned about the suspect while responding to a call to the hotel.
After arriving, police spoke with the girl who told them the suspect got her a room at the hotel. She also told officers that the suspect got her drugs and that they used them together, police said.
The suspect rode by on a bicycle moments later, and an officer asked him for identification, reports state.
The suspect didn’t have any ID, but he gave his name and date of birth. He then started looking around rapidly, and when the officer saw his hand in his pocket, he detained him for safety reasons, police report.
The suspect told officers he knew the girl and got her the hotel room because she didn’t have a place to stay. During an interview, the suspect said he never had sex with the girl, though he did bring men to the hotel room and they had sex with her.
Valdez faces charges of pimping and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The girl was charged as a juvenile on related charges, reports state.
Valdez’ Columbus Recorder’s Court hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. June 3.
