A Columbus man shot during a Saturday carjacking has been released from the hospital, police said.
One of his assailants remains on the loose while another is in the Muscogee County Jail, Lt. Freddie Blackmon said.
The two suspects approached the 28-year-old in the parking lot of a Ticknor Drive home around 4:40 a.m. One of the suspects shot the man in the head, Blackmon said.
The driver got out of his Chevrolet Tahoe, and the two suspects got in, driving off, the lieutenant added.
Moments later, an officer spotted the vehicle in the Brewer Avenue area.
“He actually fled from the patrolman,” Blackmon said.
At some point, one of the suspects stopped the Tahoe and ran, though he was arrested, Blackmon said.
The lieutenant identified one of the suspects as Dionta A. Turpin, 18. He faces charges of aggravated assault, hijacking a motor vehicle and obstruction of an officer.
Blackmon said it’s currently unknown whether the other suspect was in the vehicle during the chase.
The shooting victim was taken to The Medical Center and has since been released, Blackmon said.
