The jury officially began deliberations Wednesday afternoon, but all they did was decide to leave for the day. Check out the verdict and sentence:
A Muscogee County jury convicted Barron L. Galbreath this morning on all the charges he was facing, and a judge sentenced the 46-year-old to 15 years in prison, followed by 10 on probation.
Prosecutors alleged Galbreath severely beat his wife in July 2008 after he had been put in jail for striking her and been under a court order to stay away from her. Defense attorneys argued that the woman had seizures and fell.
“Domestic violence is a serious problem in this community and communities across the country,” said Superior Court Judge Frank Jordan Jr. before he issued his sentence.
Galbreath was convicted of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, aggravated stalking and simple battery.
Jurors deliberated more than two hours this morning before delivering their verdict.
