Muscogee County school evacuated as police respond to second bomb threat in Columbus
Students and staff at a Muscogee County school evacuated the building Wednesday after a bomb threat — the second one of the day in Columbus.
After the Columbus Government Center was evacuated in downtown during the morning, Jordan Vocational High School was evacuated in midtown during the afternoon.
Replying to the Ledger-Enquirer’s questions in an email, Muscogee County School District communications director Kimberly Wright said the bomb threat was communicated via phone to a Jordan staff member at 1:56 p.m.
The school was evacuated at 2 p.m., and the scene was declared safe for everyone to return to their classes at 2:20 p.m., Wright said.
First responders from the MCSD and Columbus police departments, as well as Columbus Fire & EMS, were on the scene.
“The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely,” Wright said. “The case is currently under investigation and there is no additional information at this time.”
