Woman jailed on identity fraud charges

A Columbus woman, accused of using the name of a Texas woman to obtain a loan, was arrested Thursday, police said.

Michelle Lee Collier, 44, faces four counts of financial identity fraud, giving false information to police, having no proof of insurance and driving with a suspended registration. She was arrested about 5 p.m. on outstanding warrants after she was stopped in a 2007 Chrysler 300 on Victory Drive.

Collier is held in the Muscogee County Jail for a 9 a.m. hearing today in Recorder's Court.

In a report, police said Collier used the Social Security number of a woman in Texas to obtain a loan Aug. 3, 2010, from Members United Credit Union on Veterans Parkway.
