Moments before marching around the block where Club Majestic is located, Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson said she started the process on Monday to close the club as a public nuisance.
“If you are properly licensed in Columbus you are not allowed to conduct a business of a trade that is criminality, so that will be shut down by course of law,” the mayor told about 70 marchers gathered at Garden of Prayer Church on Andrews Road. “There is a process and that process has begun.”
The church is less than a block away from the 2102 Cusseta Road nightclub where 24-year-old Charles Foster was fatally shot on New Year’s Day. The march and support from the mayor came four weeks after the Rev. Willie Phillips held a vigil, calling on officials to tear down the building and erect something to remember Foster, who posthumously was presented his degree from Columbus State University on Jan. 5 at his funeral.
