Lee County man, 63, charged with sexual abuse

An Opelika, Ala., has been jailed on two counts of first degree sexual abuse stemming from a March investigation by the Auburn Police Department, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

John Sluder, 63, is being held on $20,000 bond at the Lee County Detention Facility. Arrested on May 8, Sluder is accused of inappropriate sexual contact with two children who were about 8 years old at the time.

In a release, Lee County authorities said possible sexual abuse was reported in March to Auburn police but the crime may have taken place in the jurisdiction of the sheriff’s office. The investigation was transferred to Lee County in April.

Investigators learned the crimes may have occurred 14 years ago. Evidence uncovered during the investigation led to warrants issued for Sluder.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651. ----
