Police: Opelika man assaulted two officers during domestic violence arrest

A 37-year-old Opelika, Ala., man is charged with assaulting two officers Sunday after police responded to a reported domestic violence at a Frederick Road residence, according to an Opelika Police Department press release.

Officers found the 40-year-old victim bruised and lacerated outside the 1500 block home when they arrived around 8:15 p.m. After the victim identified boyfriend Marcus Decarlos Thomas as the culprit, officers attempted to place him in custody. Police say Thomas injured both officers during the arrest. No weapons were used during the assault.

Thomas was charged with third degree domestic violence and two counts of felony second degree assault. He was taken to the Lee County Detention Center.

The two officers were taken to the East Alabama Medical Center for their injuries and released shortly afterward. Both are expected to make a full recovery.

Opelika police are conducting a further investigation into the incident. More charges against Thomas may be pending.
