One woman is dead after a shooting Sunday in the 6000 block of Flat Rock Road in Columbus, according to a post on the Columbus Police Department’s X page.

Shacoya Baker, 35, was pronounced dead at 8 a.m. Sunday after being shot multiple times, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

Bryan said the incident was domestic violence and Baker’s body was found in a ditch across the road from the house where the incident started.

The CPD Violent Crimes Unit is investigating, according to the department’s X post. The police department announced later Monday that a suspect had been arrested.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect lived nearby,” police said in a news release. “After a brief standoff, investigators arrested Bryant Butler, 40. He is charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.”
