Opelika man, 43, dies in crash at involving a motorcycle and SUV

A 43-year-old Opelika man died following a Sunday Opelika crash at the intersection of Marvyn Parkway and Gateway Drive involving a motorcycle and SUV, according to the Opelika Police Department.

Christopher Collins, the driver of the motorcycle, succumbed to multiple wreck-related blunt force impact injuries at the East Alabama Medical Center at 7:53 p.m., Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said in a press release.

The driver of the SUV was not injured, Harris said.

Police believe Collins, the lone occupant of the motorcycle, was traveling south on Marvyn Parkway when a small SUV turning left from Gateway Drive and heading onto Marvyn Parkway pulled out in front of the motorcycle, causing a collision, Opelika training section supervisor Sgt. Ben Blackburn said in a press release.

Opelika Police and Fire and East Alabama Medical Center EMS responded to the incident at 7:15 a.m., Blackburn said, and found Collins lying in the roadway.
