Cataula teen accused of intentionally burning Columbus apartment wall

Officials believe an intoxicated Cataula teen set fire to an apartment wall in the 8700 block of Double Churches Road, Columbus police said.

Jake Allen McTier, 19, was taken into custody Sunday afternoon outside of the apartment complex and charged with first-degree arson, according to reports.

Police said in a report that McTier initially was intoxicated inside of the apartment. He then went outside and reportedly set fire to the wall of a nearby apartment building, causing extensive damage to the structure and the grass surrounding it, records show.

A witness reportedly saw the suspect outside with a cigarette lighter, officers said.

Records indicate that McTier is scheduled to appear in Recorder's Court Tuesday at 8 a.m.
