The Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office has recovered stolen copper welding discs valued at $10,000 and arrested a suspect, authorities said Wednesday.
Sheriff Chuck Smith identified the suspect as Jackson Blake Thompson, 35, of Howard Road in Shiloh. An employee of the Dongwon manufacturing company in Hogansville, Thompson was taken into custody at 2 p.m. Tuesday and charged with felony theft in the missing discs. Smith said Thompson was developed quickly as a suspect after an administrative personnel at Dongwon filed a report Tuesday in the theft of about 28 copper welding discs. Officials believe the theft occurred sometime between March 25 and 26.
The sheriff said investigators were able to locate the stolen copper at Davis and Sons Scrap Yard in Hamilton, Ga. Thompson may face additional charges related to the sale of the stolen discs.
