Opelika Police Capt. Shane Healey said officials are searching for the unidentified attacker who broke into the victim's home in the 3600 block of Randall Drive and robbed the owner at gunpoint around midnight.
After the offender took the victim's wallet and personal papers, he reportedly shot the victim once with a gray handgun, he said.
The victim received treatment at the East Alabama Medical Center for "a non-life threatening injury to an extremity," and he was released from the hospital, Healey wrote.
In the release, Healey said the suspect is about 5 foot 8 tall and weighs approximately 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing black pants and a black sweatshirt with gray sleeves, the police captain said.
