Fire officials said 40 people were evacuated temporarily from the Holiday Inn on Manchester Expressway after a fire ignited this afternoon in a storage room.
No one was injured in the 1:21 p.m. fire at 2800 Manchester Expressway. All of those evacuated were later allowed back inside the hotel about two hours later.
By the time firefighters with Columbus Department of Fire & Emergency Medical Services arrived, an employee had used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. Firefighters found thick smoke shooting from a section of the building.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, said Fire Marshal Ricky Shores.
Damage to the hotel was estimated at $10,000.
The fire marshal noted that the fire alarm worked properly and sounded when the fire ignited.
