The pilot of a Pitts Model 12 aircraft was injured this afternoon after a single-engine aircraft crashed short of the runway at LaGrange-Callaway Airport, authorities said.
The name and condition of the pilot were not released after the crash shortly before 2 p.m.
Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the agency is investigating the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause of the accident, she said.
The FAA will release the aircraft registration after local authorities release the name of the pilot.
The lightweight propeller aircraft is a high performance aerobatic biplane. The fuselage of the aircraft is covered in fabric. It can be built from a kit, plans or bought from the factory.
