Father dies, son seriously injured after being beaten by seven in Lee County, Ga.

A 50-year-old man and his 22-year-old son were beaten in Leesburg during an altercation at their Flowing Well Road home, and the father later died, according to officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Among those suspected of beating the two were 19-year-old Aric William Lee Cates of Leesburg, 21-year-old Terry James Gravett Jr. of Albany, 20-year-old Alexandrea Marie Cates of Leesburg, 17-year-old Taylor Elaine Lewis of Leesburg, Georgia and 17-year-old Klaudia Jade Truluck of Oakfield. Two others were arrested, but there names were not released because of their age.

The adults were charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated battery, but it’s unclear what indictments the juveniles face, according to police.

Authorities said that Kent Griffin Adam, the father, invited the group to his residence in the 700 block of Flowing Well Road.

Adam was assaulted when a physical altercation erupted, and then the seven suspects left the residents. They returned and engaged in another physical altercation in which the son was battered, officials said.

The suspects fled the scene, according to authorities.

Seriously injured, the two victims transported themselves to the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, where they ultimately refused treatment, authorities wrote in the release.

They returned to their residence, where Adam became unresponsive and died. An autopsy of Kent Adam was performed by the GBI crime lab in Macon today and the results are pending, according to the release.

The son was transported back to Pheobe Putney Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The GBI and Lee County Sheriff’s office continue to investigate the incident.
