Columbus police said the victim of a recent car theft on Coral Drive was reporting the incident when officials received an emergency call about the stolen vehicle being involved in a wreck on Shepherd Drive, according to a police report.
Authorities said three men exited the vehicle and fled the scene of the one-vehicle wreck, but no arrests have been made in connection to the car theft. Officials did not provide a detailed description of the males.
The 54-year-old Columbus man said his $23,000 white 2006 Kia Optima was taken from his driveway in the 900 block of Coral Drive between Wednesday at 11 p.m. and Thursday at 2:30 a.m.
He told police that he left the vehicle unlocked but did not leave the keys inside of it. Around the time he was making the report on Coral Drive, an officer got word of a one-vehicle wreck in the 1800 block of Shepherd Drive.
The officer headed out to the area and saw the 2006 Kia Optima on the scene. The official informed the man about the incident, and the victim went to the area to retrieve his car.
It's unclear if the wreck resulted in any property damage to the Kia Optima.
