A lightning strike caused Cougar Village Apartments at 4712 Milgen Road to catch fire Wednesday night, Columbus Deputy Fire Chief Greg Lang said.
The incident occurred at about 8:27 p.m. and resulted in $20,000 to $30,000 worth of property damage. Apartment units 101 through 112 were affected, but no one was injured, Lang said.
"When it hit the corner of apartment complex, it went into the attic and also busted a water line up in the attic," Lang said. "When it did that, it acted like a sprinkler itself and it put the fire right out. What we mainly had out there was water and smoke damage."
Columbus Fire & EMS officials were called to the scene at approximately 8:27 p.m. and left at about 11:41 p.m. the deputy fire chief said.
