An Auburn man landed behind bars after he allegedly attempted to make a purchase with counterfeit money Friday, according to a release.
Brian K. Bennett, 43, was arrested Friday and charged with five counts of first-degree possession of a forged instrument and third-degree theft of property. He was transported to the Lee County Jail, where he is eligible for bonds totaling $26,000, according to Auburn police.
Around 5 p.m. Friday, authorities received a report of someone passing counterfeit bills at a business in the 800 block of E. Glenn Avenue. Responding officers were given the description of an individual who attempted to make a purchase at the establishment using counterfeit money.
Police said they noticed that Bennett, who was in a vehicle at the business, matched the given description. They approached the suspect and took him into custody.
Authorities searched the vehicle and found several more counterfeit bills, the release states.
