Shooting on Canaan Drive in Columbus leaves one teenager dead, one critically injured
A teenager is dead after a shooting early Wednesday morning in Columbus, according to authorities.
The Columbus Police Department says the shooting happened in the 8300 block of Canaan Drive. Officers responded around 12:35 a.m. and found two people with gunshot wounds.
The victim has been identified as J’Mauri Taylor, 18, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:38 a.m. Wednesday after suffering a gunshot wound, according to Bryan.
The other person shot was critically injured in the incident, according to a post on the Columbus Police Department’s X page.
CPD’s violent crimes unit is leading the investigation, according to the post.
