An overnight shooting in Columbus has left one person dead, according to authorities.

The shooting occurred in the 7300 block of Sorrel Court, the Columbus Police Department said in a social media post.

The victim has been identified as Sonny Chambers, 42, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. Bryan said Chambers was shot by a family member after a domestic dispute. Chambers was pronounced dead at 1:55 a.m. Thursday at the scene.

The Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating, according to the X post. The department announced later Friday that 22-year-old Quentez Thrasher, Chambers’ stepson, was wanted on charges of murder and possessing a gun in the commission of a crime.

“Anyone with information on Thrasher’s whereabouts is urged to contact Cpl. C. Snipes at 706-225-4448 or csnipes@columbusga.org,” police said in a news release. “You can remain anonymous.”
