The Columbus Police Department announced in a news release Wednesday what it described as a murder investigation into the death of a teenager.

At 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a call about a shooting in the 1100 block of Celia Drive. They found the victim — later identified as Elijah Hatcher, 15 — suffering from a gunshot wound, CPD said.

Emergency medical services transported Hatcher to the Piedmont Columbus Regional emergency room, where a doctor pronounced him dead at 9:15 a.m., according to the news release.

CPD asks anyone with information about this case to contact Sgt. Sherman Hayes at 706-225-4268 or shayes@columbusga.org.
