Homicide investigation underway in Russell County after man found dead in Pittsview
A homicide investigation is underway after a man was found dead with a gunshot wound in Pittsview, Alabama, according to Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor.
No arrests have been made.
Taylor said the RCSO received multiple calls around 8 p.m. Saturday in regards to a shooting at a residence on Grant Circle in Pittsview.
Responding deputies found Travis Upshaw, 42, lying dead in the kitchen of the residence, according to Taylor.
Taylor said Upshaw was a resident of Phenix City. He said the residence at Grant Circle was a family home that belonged to Upshaw’s family.
Taylor said a gunshot wound was found, but didn’t divulge where.
The RCSO has some leads they are following, according to Taylor.
Taylor said Upshaw was last seen alive around 1:30 p.m. Saturday by a family member who passed him while driving.
“We have spoke to and contacted his family, and his mother, and brothers and we are working with them to bring justice for Travis,” Taylor said.
Taylor said Upshaw’s body will be sent to Alabama’s state forensics lab.
Taylor said there were no signs of forced entry at the residence where Upshaw was found.
“It appears that there was something going on with Mr. Upshaw and potentially the offenders,” Taylor said.
“I don’t think that there’s any danger to the community other than in the sense of, we have somebody in the community that has committed a homicide, and we have yet to get them in custody. So, I think that’s always dangerous, but nothing out of the ordinary,” Taylor said.
