Driver taken to Columbus hospital after he was shot in road rage incident, officials say
The Troup County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent weekend road rage incident that left one person shot and injured, the TCSO announced Monday.
TCSO said they were dispatched at 6:30 a.m. Sunday to I-85 S near mile marker 21 in for a person that had been shot. Responding deputies found the 56-year-old victim in a vehicle parked on the side of the interstate, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
TCSO said the victim was bleeding from the eye from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. He was taken to a Columbus area hospital for treatment, according to the release.
After speaking with the victim, investigators have determined an unknown male driving a silver car — possibly a Hyundai or KIA SUV — cut the victim off several times in traffic, the release says.
TCSO said the suspect then fired several shots at the victim’s car, striking him once in the head near his eye. The suspect kept traveling south on I-185, according to the release.
The suspect and vehicle had not been located as of Sunday afternoon, TCSO said. The incident appeared to be isolated, the release says. The sheriff’s office also didn’t provide more details on the extent or severity of the victim’s injuries.
Anyone with information can call the TCSO’s Criminal Investigations Division at 706-883-1616 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
