Muscogee County sheriff’s deputies arrest suspect in 2023 Columbus murder
A suspect in a two-year-old Columbus murder case has been arrested.
Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested of Dazuan Leshea Shelton, who was wanted in the murder of Jimmy Hearns.
On July 15, 2023, MCSO deputies responded to a shooting on Buena Vista Road. They found Hearns dead from multiple gunshot wounds, according to MCSO’s news release.
The MCSO Special Operations Unit arrested Shelton and transported him to the Muscogee County Jail without incident Monday, the news release says. He was charged with:
- Felony murder
- Felony aggravated assault
- Felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
The case remains under investigation.
“A special thanks to all of the investigators who worked on this case to bring closure to this family,” Sheriff Greg Countryman said in the news release.
