Investigators searched nine months to find the first suspect in a 2023 Columbus murder, but they have identified and charged a second suspect just days later.

Police announced Monday that Jaylen Paige, who already was in jail on a separate murder offense, is now the second defendant charged in the death of Bobby Lyons. Aquiles Saunders was the first suspect in the case. He was identified by the Columbus Police Department in June but wasn’t detained until March 14, when U.S. Marshals found him in North Carolina, police said.

Lyons was shot and killed in July 2023. Police were called to Arbor Pointe Apartments the night of July 7 and found him suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead the next day.

Paige was in Muscogee County Recorder’s Court on Monday, police said. A judge bound his case over to Superior Court, which is where his case could go to trial.
