Coroner identifies teenager killed in a Columbus shooting. Investigation ongoing

A teenager is dead following a shooting in Columbus Tuesday, according to authorities.

Police say they responded around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to a shooting in the 1000 block of Vineville Street.

Responding officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan identified the victim as David Escobar, 17. Bryan said Escobar was pronounced dead at 6:13 p.m.

The Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the incident, according to a news release.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact an investigator at 706-225-4381.
