A Troup County firefighter and emergency medical technician was arrested Tuesday and charged with one count of cruelty to children, the county announced.

The firefighter/EMT charged is Kaylen Scott, according to Lt. Stewart Smith, a spokesperson for the Troup County Sheriff’s Office. Scott has been placed on leave pending the outcome of a criminal investigation led by the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, the county said in a news release.

“The allegations that led to this arrest occurred outside of the FF/EMT’s employment with the Troup County Fire Department,” the news release says.

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office didn’t respond to further questions prior to publication, and the county declined to release any additional information.
