One person has been arrested after the death of a 16-year-old girl in a shooting Saturday in Opelika, according to the Opelika Police Department.

Police said Jamiyah Grant was shot just after 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Bandy Park and died at East Alabama Medical Center.

Timothy Shell Jr., 18, of Union Springs, Alabama, was arrested Sunday in connection with Grant’s death, according to police.

Police said an argument between a group of people preceded the shooting. What the argument was about is unknown at this time, according to police. Police said it appears Grant tried to drive away after being shot and struck another vehicle.
