A 16-year-old has been detained as the third suspect in a Columbus murder that happened last month, Columbus police announced Thursday morning.

The Columbus Police Department said the 16-year-old is charged with murder, aggravated assault and criminal attempt of armed robbery. He was arrested Tuesday.

The teenager’s charges stem from a fatal shooting at the Avalon Apartments on Cusseta Road, according to police. The May 5 shooting resulted in the death of 33-year-old Chastin Hunter, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

A second victim also was shot but was treated for their injuries at a local hospital, public information officer Brittany Santiago said previously in a news release.

The other two suspects arrested include a 17-year-old and 69-year-old Eugene Mabry, according to police. The 17-year-old was arrested May 5, and Mabry was arrested May 6. Both made initial court appearances last month.

The 16-year-old suspect is expected to appear in court Friday, police said.
