A teenager has been arrested and charged with murder for the death of another teen in April 2024, the Columbus Police Department announced Sunday.

Police said the teen suspect is charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and three counts of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting death of 16-year-old Daryus Bryant.

Officers responded around 11:50 p.m. on April 20, 2024, to Macon Road near Lakeshore Drive, where they discovered two vehicles that had been shot at, police said then.

One person from each car was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to officials.

Bryant was pronounced dead at 12:53 a.m. on April 21, 2024, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

Police said the second victim underwent emergency surgery and survived.

The teen suspect recently was taken into custody in Coweta County before being transported to Columbus on Thursday, police said.

He is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Columbus Recorder’s Court, according to police.
