Teen charged with murder in one of 4 Columbus shootings on week of July 4
Investigators have arrested a teen wanted on a murder charge in connection to a July 3 shooting, the Columbus Police Department announced Wednesday.
Police said they responded to a shooting at around 4:27 p.m. on July 3 in the 4800 block of Hearthstone Drive, where they found 21-year-old Jaques Banks dead in the front yard.
Emergency medical services arrived but was unable to resuscitate Banks, according to police.
Police said a preliminary investigation by CPD’s Violent Crimes Unit revealed the suspect to be Joriyen Gordon, 18.
Gordon was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to police.
Police said he is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in Recorder’s Court at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Banks’ death was one of a handful that happened in Columbus around Independence Day weekend. Three others died in those incidents.
