21-year-old dies after being shot while in bed during Columbus drive-by shooting

A 21-year-old is dead following a drive-by shooting Tuesday in Columbus, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

Authorities identified the victim as 21-year-old Hernandez Hubbard II. Bryan said the drive-by shooting occurred in the 6100 block of Stoneway Drive.

Hubbard was in bed around 5:40 a.m. when the family heard gunshots, according to Bryan. Hubbard sat up in bed and was struck in the head, Bryan said.

Hubbard was pronounced dead at 2:59 p.m. at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, according to Bryan.

Bryan said an autopsy will be performed on Hubbard’s body.
