A woman is wanted after allegedly abandoning her special-needs son in LaGrange, the LaGrange Police Department announced Wednesday.

LaGrange police said officers were dispatched around 5:40 p.m. Monday to a residence in the 100 block of Sunset Street after a report concerning a child’s welfare.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered that Kathleen Swanton had allegedly confined her special needs child to a bedroom and left the residence, effectively abandoning the child for other family members to find,” the news release says.

Preliminary findings indicate Swanton left the home Friday, taking her two other children with her and leaving the special-needs child behind, according to the news release.

Police said Swanton’s whereabouts are unknown, and arrest warrants have been issued for Swanton for first-degree cruelty to children under the Family Violence Act, abandonment, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and three counts of false imprisonment (FVA-related).

Police ask anyone who knows Swanton’s location to call 911. They also encourage anyone with additional information about this case to call Detective Hackett at 706-883-2697.
