The post says officers are in the 4300 block of Warm Springs Road in reference to a deadly shooting. Public information officer Brittany Santiago later confirmed the shooting happened at The Lakes Apartments.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan identified the victim as 28-year-old Martavis McKinney. Bryan said McKinney was pronounced dead at 3:21 p.m. at The Lakes Apartments.

Bryan said there was a domestic dispute between McKinney and his girlfriend. McKinney was shot in the left shoulder blade, according to Bryan.

Police said an injured woman was found at the scene inside the apartment. The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and later released, according to police.

“Preliminary information indicates this was a domestic-related incident,” the news release says.

Bryan said an autopsy will be conducted on McKinney’s body.

An ambulance was seen leaving the scene of the incident, and a van from the Muscogee County Coroner’s Office showed up just before 4:45 p.m.

The CPD Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation, according to the post.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Cpl. Andrew Fairbanks at 706-225-4381 or AFairbanks@columbusga.org.
