Three teens were arrested at a Troup County school Monday, which led to two Troup schools being placed on soft lockdowns after a suspect fled, according to officials.

The LaGrange Police Department said arrest warrants were executed at Callaway High School for three teens (two age 15 and one age 16) as part of an investigation that lasted more than two months.

Police said two of the teens (one 15-year-old and the 16-year-old) were charged with armed robbery, home invasion, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes.

The other 15-year-old was charged with armed robbery, home invasion, four counts of aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, police said.

It is Ledger-Enquirer policy not to disclose the identity of suspects under the age of 18.

LPD said the three teens are being charged as adults.

Police said one of the suspects attempted to evade law enforcement by fleeing through an exterior classroom door. Additional officers were deployed to help with the search, police said.

The suspect was found several minutes later in a wooded area away from the school, according to police.

Why two Troup County schools were placed on soft lockdowns

The Troup County School System said CHS and Gardner Newman Middle School were placed on soft lockdowns due to the suspect running from CHS toward GNMS.

TCSS said both lockdowns were lifted before 1 p.m.

“Our priority is always the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” TCSS superintendent Rachel Hazel said in the news release. “We want to reassure our parents and the community that this action is related to a past investigation and not a new threat. School operations remain normal, and our schools continue to be a safe environment for our students to learn and thrive.”

Police said the teens were transported to a state-operated regional youth detention center after their arrests.

LPD thanked the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, the Troup County Marshal’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol for their help with the operation.
